There is a reason our nickname is “lab rats”. We are usually found scavenging in small, cramped spaces with no air nor windows. But sometimes, you win the lab lottery, and not only you get windows, but also a beautiful scenery.
That’s what happens to the following scientists that decided to post their lab views on the subbredit r/labrats to make us all drool over their good fortune.
Noooo I’m not jealous, duh. Good for you babe, good for you.
Let’s go for the best lab views in the world !
Lausanne, Switzerland
It’s not enough that Switzerland looks like a fairytale (see the subreddit r/SwitzerlandIsFake if you also think it’s all a myth), but they must have the most beautiful view from their lab as well.
I mean, what ? That’s not even winning the lottery here, but the damn Powerball jackpot!
I do begin to understand why the subreddit above exists. That is wayyy too suspicious.
Fukushima, Japan
Nope, not gonna make Fukushima jokes, stop it now.
Look at that green, peaceful countryside scenery! Imagine just gazing into this panorama while drying your tears from your fifth failed Western Blot… Living the dream !
Also this picture makes me crave an egg sandwich from 7/11 so bad. Japan, you get me.
Barcelona, Spain
Damn ! Paella and tapas were not enough, Spaniards are joining the race for the best lab view award as well. And they’re doing good, ¡Bravo!
You can even see the Sagrada Familia in the background. The construction cranes are just part of it at this point, don’t worry about it.
Longyearbyen, Svalbard (Norway)
This one is compley because although this view is beautiful, there are several pros and coins about living in Svalbard :
- Pro : you live close to the North Pole – impressive, can use it later as “fun fact about me”
- Con : you live through -40°C temperature – not fun, I’d like to keep my extremities intact
- Pro : you have an breathtaking scenery – always appreciable
- Con : you do not see the sun for 4 months during polar night – my seasonal depression could never
- Pro AND Con : You can cross path with a polar bear – exciting AND terrifying
Cambridge, USA
Beautiful city view for this one ! This is a lab in Cambridge overlooking Boston.
I mean, to be fair Americans have to get a few benefits from the workplace aside from *checks notes* :
Free healthcareMore than 10 days paid time outEmployment security- Having great people and a beautiful country – come on, let them have this
Conclusion
That’s it for today ! Hope you liked my selection of the best lab views around the world. If that made you reconsider your gloomy workplace, you can check my post about the different careers you can have as a lab scientist.
Disclaimer :
To be honest with you I had way more pictures planned for today’s post.
But I am unfortunately just learning about copyrights infringements and quite frankly have no desire to get sued into oblivion over a “best lab views” post (come on, it has to be worth it should it happens). So that’s all you’ll get today! Also I’m not sorry. Bye!
