After my “Best Lab Views” post, it’s time for another light-hearted article!
I recently randomly thought about one the funniest Twitter thread to happen in the science community back in 2019.
It was the “funniest paper titles” thread, and oh boy you’re not ready.
Scientist Lisa Stinson started everything with this tweet (that I still think about to this day) in 2019 :
A heartfelt thank you to the authors for this absolute masterpiece.
But that’s not all, far from there !
Scientists started replying with their hilarious finds as well. Let’s go for a little tour of the funniest paper titles.
1) Gangnam Style
What happened in 2012 for our society to have this weird obsession with Psy’s Gangnam Style ? We may never know, but if it meant we got gem like this paper, I’m cool with it.
2) Harry Potter and..
Don’t remember this movie being part of the HP film series, but would 100% watch.
3) Talking Heads
Inspired by one of the finest concert films ever made : Stop Making Sense, by American rock band Talking Heads (yes I had to google it, don’t judge me).
4) A real (s)hit paper
Did you guys investigate my ex ? How is he doing ?
5) The forgotten Narnia sequel
Though year for the White Witch…
6) The original joke
Honestly, everyone working on NOx have thought about it once. Good job guys.
7) An easy one
Simple and efficient.
8) Adèle’s legacy
“Hello, it’s me.. (the earthworm)
I was wondering if after all these years you’d like to meet ?”
9) A fitting name
The author saw the occasion and ran with it. And honestly, it’s perfect.
For our younger lab rats : title based on Conan The Barbarian (no I did not have to google it this time, please have some faith in me)
10) A child at heart
*Slow clap* Nicely done.
11) Puns never get old
Impressive dungs.
12) Slight lisp
Introverts plants be like
13) Z like..
Do you Z the point ?
14) A highly anticipated research
Based on my own experience.. probably not good eh?
15) Geology’s take
Geologists did not disappoint. 10/10
Conclusion
Whoever said that scientists lack sense of humor and creativity obviously have not met these authors. Science is fun !
(Keep repeating that mantra after your experiment fails inexplicably for the third time; it’ll help you not lose your mind)
